Peeling from wood due to moisture

(Detachment of a dried paint film in pieces, usually caused by moisture or grease under the painted surface). Peeling when wet wood swells under paint. This swelling causes the film too loosen and fall off.

Possible causes

  • Water seepage through un-caulked joints.
  • Wood boards which are too close to bare ground.
  • Painting over wood, damp with rain or dew.
  • Insufficient drying time.
  • Leaking roofs.

Solution

  • Eliminate the source of moisture. Remove loose or cracked caulking. If moisture is rising from the ground through the foundation, waterproof the foundation with specially designed coating. Remove wood part that is touching the ground. Check roof for signs of leakage.
